Study was conducted for estimation of price spread in different channels of groundnut in Maharashtra. For the study, about 96 summer groundnut growers were randomly selected with area under groundnut and were stratified into two groups like TAG-24 and SB-11 groundnut grower from eight villages of Sengaon tehsil of Hingoli district. Five wholesalers, five village retailers and five town retailers were selected to investigate marketing cost and marketing margin in groundnut marketing. The data pertained for year 2011-12. The results revealed that, price paid by consumer was the highest as Rs. 6470.41 in channel-III (P-W-TR-TC) in which producer's share in consumer's rupee was 71.89 per cent and price spread was found to be Rs. 2119.12. In channel-II (P-VR-VC) price paid by consumer was found to be Rs. 6155.21 in which producer's share in consumer's rupee was 72.08 per cent and price spread was Rs. 1718.44. In channel-I (P-PW-OC) price paid by consumer was Rs. 5035.93 in which producer's share in consumer's rupee was 86.28 per cent and price spread was found to be Rs. 690.92. Thus, in absolute term, net price received by producer was the highest in channel-III followed by that of in channel-II and channel-I.Keywords

The present paper entitled, constraints faced in production and marketing of sugarcane in Parbhani district of Maharashtra state was studied by selecting a sample of 60 sugarcane growers from 12 villages. Multistage sampling design was used in selection of district, tehsil, village and sample growers. Relevant data on various types of constraints faced and solutions anticipated were collected using a pre-tested structured schedule by personal interview method. The results of the study revealed that in Parbhani district at large, several constraints such as extreme drought condition, lack of finance and credit facilities, delay in transportation of cane, payments not done in time, non remunerative price of the produce, trouble by harvesting gang, poor road conditions, non-availability of ready use FYM, and inadequate irrigation facilities were amongst the major constraints faced by the growers. In order to overcome these constraints, 100 per cent of the respondents suggested that government should provide drip irrigation facility under strict monitoring scheme to all sugarcane growers in the region. Majority of the farmers strongly suggested that adequate provisions must be in place to ensure remunerative price is paid for the produce. In addition, a large number of growers submitted request if bank loan facility could increase at nominal interest rate at times when it's required the most. Keywords

In grape wine production, producers are facing problems in production and marketing. Solution of problems must be given on the basis of suggestions. In regard to these aspects, the study was undertaken in the year 2009-10. Data were collected by personal interview method. Frequency and percentage method was used to analyze the constraints and suggestions of grape wine producers. Results revealed that high initial investment was severe problem which was expressed by 93.75 per cent of grape wine producers followed by that of import of yeast and other chemical (90.63 per cent) and non-availability of skilled labourers (78.13 per cent). Similarly, lack of required quantity of raw material, absence of uniformity in license fee for sale of wine and high burden of VAT charges were also important problems in grape wine production and marketing. In order to solve the problems, provision of policy for initial investment was expressed by 93.75 per cent of producer followed by reduction in cost of yeast and chemicals (87.50 per cent) and reduction in VAT charges (62.50 per cent). Thus, severe problem could be controlled by considering the suggestions for policy implication. Keywords

Maharashtra has 58 grape winery units of which 32 grape winery units were selected for knowing the effect of socio-economic characteristics on grape wine productivity. Data pertained for the year 2099-10. Arithmetic means, standard deviation, coefficient of variation, correlation and regression analyses were used to draw the inferences. The results revealed that coefficient of variation with respect to interest rate, visit to foreign countries, recruited technical persons, life of firm showed more stability in grape wine production. Correlation coefficient of education level, per day crushing capacity, crushing days showed positive relationship with grape wine productivity. Regression coefficient of education level, experience, per day crushing capacity, training in wine technology and recruited technical persons showed positive effect on grape wine productivity. Thus, there was 89 per cent of variation in wine productivity due to all socio-economic characteristics together. Keywords

Pearlmillet (Pennisetum typhoids L.) is one of the most important cereal crops in India. The productivity is influenced by the production methods as well as the socio-economic characteristics of pearlmillet grower. The data pertained to the year 2008-09 in order to study the effect of socio-economic characteristics of the grower on the productivity of pearlmillet crop. Linear function was fitted to the data. Results revealed that, regression coefficients of family size (0.212), livestock (0.301) and capital investment on bullock pair (0.003) were positive and significant. Thus, it inferred that if one added person to family size, one added unit of livestock and one added rupee to investment on bullock pair could lead to increase the productivity of pearlmillet by 0.212, 0.301 and 0.003 quintal, respectively. Keywords
